SINGAPORE: Singapore will send a team of 16 bowlers to the upcoming SEA Games. Six of them will be making their SEA Games debut.
The debutants include former Sports Boy of the Year and Singapore Open bronze medallist Jaris Goh.
Singapore’s bowlers are raring to make up for lost time. Bowling was not contested in Myanmar in the previous edition and the team had been waiting for four years to defend the three gold medals they won in Indonesia in 2011.
Coach Remy Ong, who won two gold medals at the 2007 SEA Games in Thailand, said mental preparation is key to his team’s chances.
“You need to be calm to think right, then you will be able to actually do the right things,” he said, speaking at a news conference on Friday (May 29) where the bowling squad was unveiled. “So I think emotionally when you are actually stable, somehow or rather it gives you an edge over your opponents – you will be calm, you will be able to think right and do the right thing at the right moment.”
