SINGAPORE: An hour-long blackout hit parts of Bukit Panjang on Tuesday evening (Jul 14), sending entire HDB blocks into darkness.
Residents told Channel NewsAsia that the lights went out at about 10.10pm and that blocks affected included Block 130 to 140, 205, 206, 219, 227 and 228. Member of Parliament for Bukit Panjang Teo Ho Pin said a total of 19 blocks were hit by the outage and that power was restored by 11.20pm.
He also said he and Town Council staff were on site during the blackout and were in touch with officers from Singapore Power and the Essential Maintenance Service Unit.
Singapore Power said the blocks hit by the outage were at Petir Road, Cashew Road and Pending Road. “Our officers were immediately deployed on site, and our priority was to restore supply safely as soon as possible. “I was using my phone when it happened. Everything suddenly became pitch black. Only my screen was shining brightly. I couldn’t even see my hands,” said 19-year-old Rusell Chia. “It happened once before, more than 10 years ago. It was longer than this, so this is alright,” he added.
“I was preparing for Hari Raya when it happened. I thought it was just my house, but then I came down and noticed the other blocks…
