Jail and driving ban for cabbie who left man legless after crash on PIE | Singapore Informer

28-year-old Ng Xin Yun was left without legs last year after a freak accident with a taxi on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE). The fault lied with the taxi driver himself, who pleaded guilty to a charge of causing grievous hurt with a negligent act that endangered human life — as well as a count of hurting his passenger. 37-year-old Malik Samat has since been sentenced to jail for a week and disqualified from driving for two years, The Straits Times reports. On the night of Nov 17 last year, Ng had alighted from his lorry, which had broken down on the third lane of the PIE near the Eng Neo Avenue exit. He wanted to place a breakdown sign behind the lorry.
