Diplomat spouses bake for the needy in SG50 project | Singapore Informer

SINGAPORE: Over 3000 cookies were baked on Friday (Jun 12) for 500 underprivileged families across Singapore as part of a baking project.

The project saw 14 diplomatic spouses come together with 30 senior volunteers to give back to society and also celebrate 50 years of Singapore’s independence. The spouses which took part came from countries such as Angola, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Turkey and Zimbabwe.

The cookies, which come in three flavours, will be distributed to the families through Voluntary Welfare Organisation, “Willing Hearts”, which provides daily meals and other support services to the needy.

The collaboration aims to allow the diplomatic community to join in the SG50 celebrations as well as promote senior volunteerism.

The event was organised in celebration of the National Senior Volunteer Month, which is held from April to October 2015.
