Oriental Pied Hornbills – Singapore Botanic Gardens carpark – Singapore Video

Taken in Janurary 2018 at the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Felt very special to see these majestic birds at a time when the population of wild hornbills in Singapore was still fledgling.

Even more poignant was how they are getting used to their urban surroundings, so I hope the car owner took it in stride! (Cars are ridiculously expensive in Singapore, so a single scratch can feel like an arrow through the heart.) They were probably curious over their reflections.

These birds used to be common, but became extinct on the island nation due to urbanization. Programmes to reintroduce them seem to be promising.

Taken with an iPhone. All I had on me at the time!
