I would’nt even classify this as Singapore history in its total meaning. Singapore history dates back even before January 1819 (Raffles), colonial history, post-war history and definitely LKY legacy.
Our history includes the influences of Malaccan kingdom, Sriwijayan kingdom, Majapahit, Siam and the migration of sea gypsies in accordance to archaeological artefacts.
Sadly, many of us seldom look beyond colonial history.. sad is’nt it.
“We as a singaporean, we must thanks to MM Lee Kuan Yew! from a wild land dramatically change to a modern city! MY Home!”
Yes, indeed.
As an American, at first I had a bad attitude toward Mr. Lee and Singapore, mainly due to the caning of Michael P. Fay.
However, after visiting Singapore in 2002, I was AMAZED by the Intelligence, Vision, and Fortitude of Mr. Lee, and by his incredible accomplishment: the Singapore of today.
